The Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E VR has a constant f/5.6, which was a nice surprise to have out to 500mm distance, and it’s very sharp even wide open.
The weight of the lens Nikon lens, 4.60 lb (2090 g), was lighter than expected as well, considering it’s a 500mm f/5.6. This new 200-500mm lens is Nikon’s first reasonably priced ultratelephoto.
This is a lens for long-distance photos; it does not focus so close (7.2′ or 2.2m minimum) and it is kind of (only f/5.6 at every aperture) and it doesn’t zoom wide (200mm minimum), these short comings help allows it to be sold at a very low price of $1399 or less.
