The most common is the The “FEE” error. This indicates that the camera cannot control the full range of the lens aperture. If your lens has a mechanical aperture ring, rotate the aperture to its smallest opening, or highest f-number (normally 16 or 22) – usually marked in orange text. Move the lens ring to highest F-number aperture and lock it using the aperture locking switch to prevent this message from appearing again on your D7100.
The second most common is the “F–“ error message. This is an indication that the camera and lens are not talking to each other. Either the lens has no electronic contacts, or maybe the lens is not completely clicked in to place. Be sure if the lens is a CPU lens, that it is fully connected onto the cameras bayonet lens mounting ring. Do not press the lens release button as this may cause the error. Twist the lens to lock in place on the D7100. You should hear a “click” when the lens is snapped solidly onto the camera.
Also, the lens pins and camera contacts may be dirty and causing issues. Check over the lens contacts for grease or grime and wipe them clean with a lint free cloth or cotton swab.
