If you are interested in the new Canon EOS Rebel SL2 as a vlogging camera this test video by Gordon Laing might help you decide.
For many people the Canon’s EOS 200D / Rebel SL2 will be an ideal camera for vlogging. The newly released Canon has a fully-articulated screen that can tilt towards the subject, very good phase-detect autofocus with superb face detection, and a mic input and hotshoe for connecting and mounting external microphones.
During this video Gordan demonstrates how well the Canon Rebel SL2 performs while walking through Brighton’s side alleys. He used the EF-S 18-55mm f3.6-5.6 at 18mm f5.6, a shutter of 1/50 and Auto ISO in Movie Manual mode. The cameras quality level was set to 1080 / 50p, and he had a Rode shotgun microphone connected to the mic input of the Canon Rebel SL2.
Canon’s 24 Megapixel sensor brings high quality images and 1080p movies, while Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF helps the camera refocuses well when shooting video or stills in Live View. Canon’s new wireless features are some of the best around with full remote control or image transfer on Android or iOS devices along with Canon’s excellent free tethering software for Mac OS and Windows systems. The Canon Rebel SL2’s addition of Bluetooth means the camera and phone take care of the connecting the Wifi for you, while also providing pain-free GPS tagging as you shoot. Canon may have been late to equip its cameras with wireless connectivity, but its latest solutions are among the best available.
