If you need a Speedlite Flash that will function correctly with the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Camera here is a list.
You can buy many different flashes that will mount on your SX50 but most won’t work automatically. To work properly you will have to make all the proper settings for each circumstances in your manual setting to get a properly exposed photo.
Many Canon flashes will read your Canon SX50’s settings directly from the hot shoe on top of the camera. The flash will time the light properly for the best image quality on the fly. It will take all the guess work away and let the camera do all the work for you. You can just snap that photo in auto mode if you desire and still have great results.
Here is a list of Canon Speedlite Flashes that work automaticly with the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS Camera:
Are there basic settings on the SX50 required to get a TTL capable flash communicating with it? I watched an introductory video of an aftermarket flash I purchased (Altura AP C1001, designated for Canon E-TTL cameras) communicating with a Canon EOS but I can’t get my flash to indicate the changes I’m making on my SX50. Probably some menu options on the camera I’m over looking.
Klink: That flash will not work in E-ttl mode with the SX50. Only with most of there DSLRs but not the bridge cameras. It will work as a manual flash though. Canon doesn’t allow E-TTL flash metering in M mode on their bridge cameras.
Thanks very much Klink. After much (repetitive) searching I have resigned myself that only a Canon brand EX series Speedlite will work all of its functions automatically with the SX50 HS. That’s taken the shine off my luck, since I bought the camera at a great price as a refurb direct from Canon Canada – under $150 Cdn. I will hunt for a used 430EXii and sell off the Altura flash to compensate my pocket a little bit.
Klink: Good luck with the search. I have had my best luck buying used flashes from Amazon instead of ebay. You can get the 430EX II cheap sometimes there.
I have canon SX60 HS. Can you recommend a good and cheap flash that will work well with my camera?
I now recommend the GODOX TT350C for Canon sx50, SX60, and other Canon bridge cameras. Best flash for the money going now.
